Beaufort History Museum Annual Meeting

January 30 @ 5:00 pm

The annual meeting of the Beaufort History Museum will take place on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. at Beaufort City Hall, 1911 Boundary Street. All members are eligible to attend and invited to do so. An agenda will be sent prior to the meeting. We hope to see you there.

These are exciting times for your Museum. Two historic anniversaries offer the Museum an opportunity create memorable displays and engagements. The first of these two is the bicentennial of Lafayette’s visit to Beaufort on March 18, 1825 on his farewell tour of America. In addition to a Lafayette exhibit at the Museum, we will sponsor a Ball to be held in Waterfront Park. Look for details in the days ahead.

The second historic commemoration is the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Museum applied for and received a Major Grant from the South Carolina 250th Anniversary Commission to celebrate the nation’s birthday. We plan Revolutionary War reenactments at the Arsenal aimed primarily at school children, the first of which is scheduled for March 21 and 22, 2025. Beginning in February 2026, the Museum will host an immersive theater unlike any exhibit in our history. Tensions ran high between Patriots and Loyalists in the years leading up to war, with the future of America at stake. With funds provided by the Major Grant, an immersive theater will dramatically highlight these tensions to give viewers a better understanding of our legacy of freedom.
